Kyiv Polytechnic open to deepening partnership with Japan
Recently, the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute received a delegation of the House of Representatives (HR) of Japan, led by its Speaker Eisuke Mori, including HR Member Masahito Moriyama. They were accompanied by Yo Osumi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine, and representatives of the Japanese Embassy.
One of the central themes of the meeting was the deepening of cooperation in engineering education and science. Kyiv Polytechnic stands ready to serve as a platform for collaboration between Ukrainian and Japanese universities and technology partners in areas vital to Ukraine’s recovery and technological development: energy sustainability; robotics and automation; cybersecurity; nuclear power engineering; and artificial intelligence.
The role of the university as the hub of the Ukrainian-Japanese cultural and educational dialogue was under special discussion. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Kyiv Polytechnic’s Ukraine-Japan Centre. Over these two decades, it has grown into a platform for cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the Japan Foundation, Japanese universities and companies. Centre’s initiatives include the annual festival of Japanese culture “Japanese Autumn,” language programmes, and the administration of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
During their visit, the guests were guided through the exhibits in the Borys Paton State Polytechnic Museum, particularly the exhibition “Sumo: Rikishi. Strength and Spirit”. They also toured the Kyiv Polytechnic’s Scientific and Technical Library and the Ukraine-Japan Centre where they viewed the photo exhibition “Thank You, Japan” and the works of US photographer Mark Edward Harris entitled “Hot Springs. The Path of Cleansing Soul and Body.”
It is worth noting too that this was Eisuke Mori’s first visit to Ukraine since the start of the Russia’s full-scale invasion, and his second visit to Kyiv Polytechnic. For the first time, he visited the university back in 2015. Masahito Moriyama had likewise visited the university before, in 2024, when he held the post of Japan’s Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
A huge shout-out to Japan on its unwavering support for Ukraine.
Importantly, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is open to deepening partnership with Japan, from education and culture to science, engineering and joint technology projects.
