The plan focuses on\u00a0three key strategic orientations for EU\u2019s research and innovation funding, including:\u202f\u00a0<\/p><ul style=\"text-align: justify\"><li>green transition,\u202f\u00a0<\/li><li>digital transition, \u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li>more resilient, competitive, inclusive and democratic Europe.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><p style=\"text-align: justify\">The objective\u00a0of the orientations is to\u00a0<strong>address<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>key global challenges<\/strong>, such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, an ageing population and the digital transition. Overarching principles applying across all orientations include open strategic autonomy and securing the leading role of Europe in developing and deploying critical technologies. The\u00a0<strong>ambition\u00a0on\u00a0biodiversity is raised<\/strong>, committing to an\u00a0<strong>objective of\u00a010% of the\u00a0total\u00a0budget<\/strong>\u00a0dedicated to topics related to biodiversity for the period 2025-2027,\u00a0thus complementing the existing targets for climate expenditure and main digital activities.\u202f\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify\">The plan introduces new developments and elements, including\u00a0<strong>nine new\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/research-and-innovation.ec.europa.eu\/funding\/funding-opportunities\/funding-programmes-and-open-calls\/horizon-europe\/european-partnerships-horizon-europe_en\"><strong>European co-financed and co-programmed partnerships<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and an\u00a0<strong>overview of the\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/research-and-innovation.ec.europa.eu\/funding\/funding-opportunities\/funding-programmes-and-open-calls\/horizon-europe\/eu-missions-horizon-europe_en\"><strong>EU Missions<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0accomplishments<\/strong>\u00a0in their first years.\u00a0<strong>The\u202f<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/new-european-bauhaus.europa.eu\/index_en\"><strong>New European Bauhaus<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u202f(NEB) Facility<\/strong>\u00a0is introduced as a novel pioneering movement which encourages collaboration among municipalities, cities, experts, businesses and higher education institutions to collectively create and reimagine inclusive, sustainable lifestyles in Europe and beyond.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify\">In addition, it was announced\u00a0on 25 March 2024,\u00a0that the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/IP_24_1701\"><strong>Republic of Korea will join the Horizon Europe programme<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0Korea formally expressed its interest to associate to Horizon Europe by submitting a Letter of Intent on 14 February 2022, and now the Association Agreement is to be signed in the second half of 2024, paving the way for the country\u2019s participation in Horizon Europe from 2025 onwards.
