Recently, the Centre for Space Communications and Radio Astronomy has opened at the Faculty of Radio Engineering of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The project was carried out with the help of sponsors, and students fixed the area \u2014 from repairs and the assembly of electrical accessories to the fine-tuning of high-frequency machinery. The laboratory has already obtained an official license and a radio call, enabling it to go on the international airwaves.<\/p>

Its station operates at a frequency of 10 GHz, applying the Earth\u2013Moon\u2013Earth (EME), or Moonbounce, techniques for global communication. At present, it is the only amateur, or ham, radio station of this calibre in Ukraine.<\/p>

The new lab will allow students to master unique communication techniques and hold sessions with radio amateurs worldwide. They will work with high-frequency machinery, antennas equipped with rotating mechanisms, transceivers, and transverters. In addition, students will be able to design, calculate, and build antennas and other radio equipment for term papers and dissertations, participate in international amateur radio competitions, and draw up technical proposals for NASA’s planned 2027 Artemis III mission in low Earth orbit.<\/p>
