Japanese professor delivers lecture on unknown aspects of Russia-Ukraine war at Kyiv Polytechnic

Recently, the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute welcomed a guest of honor — Norito Kunisue, a distinguished journalist and professor at the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, University of Tokyo.

He delivered a lecture titled “Unknown Aspects of War: 36 Years of Journalistic Experience,” offering Kyiv Polytechnic students a deep dive into the heart of frontline reporting. As a Japanese journalist covering events in Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, he shared his firsthand experiences in conflict zones, unveiling the stark realities that often escape global awareness.

Also, Professor Kunisue is a member of an international group that investigates and documents human rights violations, collaborating with global institutions to bring war criminals to justice. He spoke about the International Tribunal and crimes committed against Ukrainians.

“Most of my reports are in Japanese, as my mission is to tell the true story of Ukraine to our government and society,” said Norito Kunisue. “However, this information spreads far beyond Japan. Many first learned about the tragedies of [the towns of] Bucha and Irpin, the plight of Ukrainian refugees, and other war events from Japanese journalists. The world must hear the truth, not fakes.”

The Kyiv Polytechnic community is deeply grateful to Professor Kunisue for his visit, his courage, and his dedication to reporting the truth about the sinister war and his commitment to ensure Ukraine’s voice is heard on the international arena. His activity is not just journalism but a vital mission that helps open the eyes of the international community to the true picture of disastrous events.

Professor Kunisue’s visit and lecture were organized with the support of the Ukraine-Japan Center at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
