Humanitarian demining: Doing more together with partners
The Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute continues its search for the most efficient technologies for demining to clear Ukrainian territories of explosive hazards.
Recently, a two-day working meeting took place at Kyiv Polytechnic within the framework of the Humanitarian Demining and Security System project, implemented under the joint programme of UNIDO and the Government of Japan.
The initiative brings together a team of international and Ukrainian professionals for follow-up projects. Among them are experts from the Kyiv Polytechnic’s Educational and Research Centre for Innovative Humanitarian Demining Technologies, the Sikorsky Challenge Ukraine Innovation Ecosystem, Japan’s technology companies Cognitive Research Labs and Nose Kozai, as well as gurus from Target LLC and the NGO Ukrainian Deminers Association.
Further cooperation envisages laboratory experiments, testing and the organisation of production of advanced drones and robotic platforms equipped with mine detection sensors. Plans also include the establishment of a Data Synthesis Centre, which will process information, draw up maps of security and danger zones, and deliver them to users in an accessible format.
Together, these partners endeavour not just to clear the Ukrainian land of the Russian hazards – but to chart a safer future.
