In Strasbourg, Kyiv Polytechnic and UMD hold Advanced Research Workshop

The Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, in partnership with the University of Maryland (UMD), co-organised the Advanced Research Workshop “Science for the Recovery of Ukraine” in the French city of Strasbourg from 3 to 5 February 2026. Hosted by the University of Strasbourg, this landmark event brought together leading scientists and experts to discuss advanced technologies and their role in the recovery and development of Ukraine.

During the workshop, participants presented the outcomes of research and Kyiv Polytechnic engagement in international projects in priority areas, including satellite intelligence and Earth observation, autonomous navigation and drone development, cybersecurity, and agent-based artificial intelligence.

Special attention was paid to joint projects between Kyiv Polytechnic and UMD, as well as to research supported by the US National Science Foundation, the Swiss National Science Foundation, and the EU’s Horizon Europe grant funding.

The Kyiv Polytechnic delegation included Prof Serhii Stirenko, Vice-Rector for Research, Prof Alexei Novikov, Director of the Institute of Physics and Technology (IPT), Andrii Shelestov, Professor at the IPT Department of Mathematical Modelling and Data Analysis (MMDA), and Sofiia Drozd, a postgraduate at the same department.

The workshop provided an exceptional platform for its participants through strategic discussions about Kyiv Polytechnic’s world-class achievements in science, further research plans, and the development of its space programme and interdisciplinary initiatives.

Such events contribute to strengthening international collaboration, developing high-tech research, and creating new opportunities for the scientific community of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, particularly for the IPT Department of Mathematical Modelling and Data Analysis.
