Kyiv Polytechnic, Ericsson join efforts to train future engineers in 5G

Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and Ericsson, the university has launched the international education programme “Ericsson Educate: 5G University” to develop skills in digital technologies.

The programme includes 50 hours of the in-depth studies of 5G technologies and standards, intended to supplement students’ ongoing technical studies with courses that would strengthen their ICT skills and increase their readiness for jobs in the telecom sector.

In the first phase, nine teachers successfully completed the programme and received certificates, making Kyiv Polytechnic the only university in Ukraine whose teaching staff have been trained under a programme run by one of the world’s leading companies in the domain of 5G. Currently, these educators are actively introducing their acquired knowledge into the educational process.

The key areas of modern telecommunications covered in the programme are as follows:

  • Radio Access Network (RAN);
  • 5G Core; and
  • Cloud technologies.

Over the course of 10 sessions, the university educators were equipped with the tools and knowledge requisite for training the next generation of 5G professionals.

The Kyiv Polytechnic educators, who were issued with the teaching certificates, included:

Maria Skulysh, Director of the Institute of Telecommunications Systems (ITS);

Serhii Kravchuk, Head of the ITS Department of Telecommunications;

Anatolii Makarenko, Head of the ITS Department of Electronic Communications and Internet of Things;

Serhii Martyniuk, Dean of the Faculty of Radio Engineering (FRE); and

Serhii Litvintsev, Head of the FRE Department of Radio Engineering; among others.

Students who successfully pass the online assessment under the programme will receive an Ericsson digital badge — recognised evidence of their level of acquired knowledge on 5G – that they can share on their CV and social media.

In prospect, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and Ericsson plan to expand their fruitful collaboration by introducing new intense training programmes laser focused on 5G technologies.
