From idea to action: Kyiv Polytechnic students complete energy efficiency project
Students of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute have completed the educational and practical project “Energy Efficiency: From Idea to Action” under the Ukrainian-Danish Energy Partnership Programme (UDEPP).
For several months, they have been adopting experience in energy-saving, learning by examples from Ukrainian enterprises, energy facilities and laboratories, as well as the Danish Energy Agency, the Technical University of Denmark, the University of Copenhagen, municipal energy facilities, and the Amager Resource Centre.
Thereafter the students moved to practice. They designed the EnergoCampus web platform — a future information hub offering pieces of advice on energy efficiency and student initiatives; created a Telegram bot through which users can report instances of wasteful energy use in academic buildings and dormitories; organised a publicity campaign featuring posters with Kyiv Polytechnic’s mascot and themed stickers that give useful tips on how to save electricity, heat and water; and inspected university buildings, using thermal imaging equipment to pinpoint areas of heat loss.
The students presented their deliverables during a final meeting at the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.
Huge congratulations to the Kyiv Polytechnic team on their weighty outcomes, namely:
- Kateryna Kononenko, Ivan Kot, Dmytro Pysarenko and Kyrylo Cherniavskyi — students at the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management (IEE);
- Dmytro Lienkov, student at the Institute of Nuclear and Thermal Energy;
- Olena Borychenko, project coordinator and Head of the IEE Department of Power Supply; and
- Anatolii Cherniavskyi — project coordinator, Associate Professor at the Department of Power Supply, and Director of the IEE Energy Managers Training Centre.
The next step is to implement students’ ideas and help the university to manage its energy resources even more efficiently. In fact, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute translates bold ideas into impact, and its researchers and students work with industry, the public sector and communities to make a tangible difference in sustainability.
