Kyiv Polytechnic student represents Ukraine at IEEE IES SYP Congress in Brazil

Viktoriia Tarasenko, a master’s student at the Department of Electronic Devices and Systems of the Faculty of Electronics at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI) and head of the IEEE KPI Student Branch, participated in the 3rd IEEE Industrial Electronics Society Student and Young Professional (IES SYP) Congress held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 13 to 15 August 2026. Organised by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), which unites over 533,000 members in more than 190 countries, the event served as a platform for scientific presentations, expert-led masterclasses and panel discussions geared to knowledge exchange, professional development, and career growth.

According to Viktoriia Tarasenko, she joined the event as a university ambassador, contributing to panel discussions on the latest innovative technologies in power engineering. The Kyiv Polytechnic student highlighted a friendly atmosphere, inspiring plenary sessions and topical workshops on power electronics and AI-enabled embedded systems programming.

Knowledge gained at Kyiv Polytechnic empowered Viktoriia Tarasenko to enjoy meaningful networking with peers from the United States, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Slovenia, Sweden, Poland, Brazil, Italy and France, laying the foundation of future cooperation. As the sole representative of Ukraine, she presented traditional refreshments and desserts during a cultural programme, which whipped up unbounded enthusiasm well beyond expectations. A post-congress excursion, though limited by rain and low cloud that partly obscured the Christ the Redeemer statue, nevertheless offered memorable views of ocean bays, local fauna and palm landscapes, with late-winter temperatures of around +20 °C.

Viktoriia Tarasenko’s travel to Rio de Janeiro was fully funded by IEEE Ukraine. Despite a nearly 12-hour flight and a six-hour time difference, her pleasant experiences in that wonderful city prevailed.

It is worth noting too that after earning her bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from the Faculty of Electronics in 2025 and entering its master’s programme, Viktoriia Tarasenko was invited to join IEEE Ukraine. Her previous participation in a regional young professionals’ congress in Vilnius in September 2025, supported by IEEE Ukraine, helped the student to identify concrete areas of collaboration. Further, her presentation on IEEE Ukraine’s activities at the 51st Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IECON 2025) in Madrid led to her appointment as head of the IEEE KPI Student Branch.
