Renewal, governance, vision: Ministry changes Kyiv Polytechnic’s Supervisory Board

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has approved a new composition of the Supervisory Board of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute on 3 June 2025.

The newly appointed Board brings together a powerhouse lineup of prominent figures from academia, public administration, and the high-tech sector. Among them are world-renowned scientists, top-tier executives, influential policymakers, and longstanding strategic partners of the university. They share values and vision for Kyiv Polytechnic’s development on the global stage.

This is a crucial step toward strengthening Kyiv Polytechnic’s role as a national leader in innovation, STEM education, and sustainable development.

Remarkably, 40% of new Board members are Kyiv Polytechnic alumni. Overall, 50% of the Supervisory Board has been replaced — a clear signal of university’s dynamic approach, openness to transformation, and long-term strategic direction.

Public and Government Sector

  • Oleksandr Korniienko, First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine’s parliament), will serve as Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
  • Oleksandr Kamyshin, Adviser to the President of Ukraine and former Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine (2023–2024).
  • Darka Olifer, Representative of the Leonid Kuchma Presidential Foundation “Ukraine,” will serve as Secretary of the Board.

High-Tech Business

  • Aleksandr Konotopskyi, Founder of Ajax Systems, appointed as Vice-Chairman of the Board.
  • Stepan Mytysh, Head of EPAM Ukraine and Vice President of EPAM Systems.
  • Oleksandr Olshanskyi, President of Internet Invest Group and Deputy Chair of the Executive Committee of the National Reform Council.
  • Victor Slobodyanyuk, Founder and CEO of PlasmaTech Group.
  • Oleh Uruskyi, Director of Progresstech Ukraine and former Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine (2020–2021).

Academic Community

  • Anatolii Zahorodnii, President of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Ukraine.
  • Ihor Kryvtsun, Director of the Yevhen Paton Institute of Electric Welding at the NAS of Ukraine.
  • Vasyl Lazoryshynets, Director of the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery at the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.
  • Ivan Serhiienko, Director of the Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics, NAS of Ukraine.
  • Yaroslav Yatskiv, Director of the Main Astronomical Observatory, NAS of Ukraine.
  • Yury Gogotsi, Founding Director of the A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute (USA), and the most cited Ukrainian-born scientist in the world.

Sincere thanks are due to the former members of the Supervisory Board – particularly its longtime Chairman, Leonid Kuchma, President of Ukraine (1994–2005) – for their significant contribution to Kyiv Polytechnic’s development and international reputation.

In changing the Supervisory Board, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute signals more than renewal: the university sets its course toward a future shaped by global partnerships, good governance, and academic excellence.
