Education, engineering, rehabilitation: Innovation Complex opened at Kyiv Polytechnic
A significant event both for Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and for Ukraine’s science at large took place on 20 May 2025 – the inauguration of the Innovation Complex within the Sikorsky Challenge Science Park of Additive Technologies and the Training and Innovation Centre for Prosthetics and Rehabilitation.
The Innovation Complex within the Science Park of Additive Technologies is a modern and inclusive space devoted to the development of additive technologies, biomedical engineering, startups, and new technological solutions. The facility houses laboratories equipped for 3D printing, scanning and modelling.
More importantly, it also serves as a centre of education and reintegration for war veterans. In particular, the Kolo charitable foundation, Kyiv Polytechnic, and the Appflame IT product company will soon introduce a free training course in 3D modelling and printing focused on engineering and biomedicine.
At the Innovation Complex, veterans and injured soldiers, together with a team of Kyiv Polytechnic expert engineers and scientists, will be able to:
- Conduct research and design in biomechanics, 3D scanning and modelling, prototyping, and manufacturing;
- Master engineering skills and create new technologies.
The founders of this unique space are:
- Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute
- Sikorsky Challenge Ukraine Innovation Ecosystem
- Kolo charitable foundation
- Genesis Engineering Ukraine LLC.
This project is supported by partners and sponsors, including:
- EPAM Ukraine
- Appflame
- OBRIO IT company;
- Genesis for Ukraine charitable foundation
Their contributions comprise infrastructural development, the procurement of research and teaching equipment, and the creation of conditions for dual education and veteran programmes.
Also, thanks are due to the government officials who supported the initiative and participated in the opening, particularly Denys Kurbatov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.
An important role in the development of additive technologies is played by the Kyiv Polytechnic’s Addex team – a group of lyceum and university students and teachers who are proactively cooperating with rehabilitation centres and hospitals in the realm of orthotics.
With its fusion of education, engineering, and rehabilitation, the Innovation Complex is more than a facility – it is a powerhouse for Ukraine’s resilient, tech-focused future.
