Ukraine joined the Horizon Europe and Euratom programs
At the 23rd Ukraine-European Union Summit, held on October 12, 2021, the Agreement on Ukraine’s participation in the Horizon Europe Framework Program for Research and Innovation and the European Atomic Energy Community’s Euratom Research and Training Program was officially signed.
Once all the domestic procedures required for ratification of the Agreement have been completed, Ukrainian scientists, innovators and entrepreneurs can have access to all support instruments and raise grants for the implementation of joint international Horizon Europe and Euratom projects.
Horizon Europe is a multinational research and innovation framework program that is the largest of its kind in the world. Within the framework of this program, it is planned to create new mechanisms and tools for decision-making: the European Innovation Council, issues of research missions, partnership projects, etc. Horizon Europe is designed for the period from 2021 to 2027, for which industrial modernization is planned through concerted research and innovation efforts.
Horizon Europe is implemented through open competitions announced by the European Commission. For Ukraine, participation will mean working in consortia with Western universities and laboratories. First, conditions will be created for the implementation of research activities, commercialization of developments, development of the national innovation sphere and the development of cooperation with European countries in determining the current areas of research and innovation research. It is worth noting that Ukraine was an associate member and actively participated in the implementation of projects in Horizon 2020 – the previous framework program of the European Union for research and innovation.
