
Kyiv Polytechnic initiative among top picks of joint Ukrainian-Latvian R&D projects
The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, together with the Latvian Council of Science, recently have closed the call for joint Ukrainian-Latvian research and development projects for 2025-2026. Based on the outcomes of an independent expert evaluation, 11 best initiatives have been cherry-picked to receive funds from government-supported grant funding.
Among the winning initiatives is a project led by Olena Chumachenko, a professor at the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Her research, titled “Development of artificial intelligent systems for early biomarker detection in spine imaging with a focus on evaluating structural changes in osteoporotic vertebral bodies, including potential applications for war-affected individuals,” will be carried out over a two-year period in partnership with Latvian scientists.
The call covered the following five key fields:
- Power engineering and energy efficiency
- Ecology and rational use of natural resources
- Biotechnologies and new medical technologies
- New materials
- Social sciences and humanities.
This is the fifth call for proposals under the intergovernmental Cooperation Programme between Ukraine and Latvia in the Field of Science and Technology. The purpose of this programme is to support innovative projects of practical significance and contribute to strengthening international scientific cooperation.
