Student Leaders Unite to Advance the Sustainable Development Goals
A significant international event, “Student Leaders at the Forefront: Higher Education’s Role in Advancing Global Goals,” was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Organized by the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) in partnership with the Millennium Campus Network (MCN), the event brought together representatives from universities and student organizations around the world to discuss the role of higher education in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A key highlight of the event was the appointment of SDG Hub Chairs for the 2025–2027 term – coordinators responsible for advancing each of the 17 global goals. Leading universities from various countries committed to supporting the implementation of these goals – from eradicating poverty to fostering global partnerships.
During the event, participants showcased their own student-led initiatives, discussed innovative approaches to education, academic research, and collaboration with local communities. The discussions reaffirmed that young people and academic institutions are powerful driving forces in the global movement for sustainable development.
