Article on far-reaching repercussions of Kakhovka dam disaster is out

On 24 July 2025, the article “Flooded and Irrigation Area Monitoring After the Kakhovka Dam Disaster Based on Machine Learning and Satellite Data” co-authored by Nataliia Kussul, Hanna Yailymova and Andrii Shelestov from the Department of Mathematical Modeling and Data Analysis at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in collaboration with Inbal Becker-Reshef, Sergii Skakun and Sheila Baber from the University of Maryland et al. was published in the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing (Q1).
The main goal of this study is to assess flooded areas and the impact on irrigated area before and after the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam near the Ukrainian city of Kherson.
