Kyiv Polytechnic Lecturers Join the First DAAD MERIT-Ukraine Online Seminar
On April 23, 2026, lecturers of the Department of Power Supply at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute participated in the online seminar “Engaging Students with Technology: Innovative Methods and Practical Tips.”
The event was held in cooperation with Leibniz Universität Hannover within the framework of the DAAD project “MERIT-Ukraine: Mechatronics, Energy, Robotics, and Innovation Technologies with Ukraine.”
The speaker of the seminar was Dipl.-Chem. Sylvia Feil, a member of the Media Didactics team at the Center for Quality of Teaching and Learning at Leibniz Universität Hannover. She shared practical approaches to increasing student engagement through the use of digital technologies, interactive tools, and modern teaching methods.
During the seminar, participants explored the approaches of Leibniz Universität Hannover to the development of teaching and learning, including the Teaching Constitution—a document that outlines the shared values, principles, and strategic directions of the educational process at the university. Particular attention was paid to competence-based learning, the active role of students, the development of critical thinking, interdisciplinarity, and the use of innovative pedagogical approaches.
The seminar also covered key principles of effective teaching, including activating prior knowledge, ensuring clear course structure, effective communication, and providing feedback. Participants discussed active learning methods such as one-minute papers, small group work, surveys, and interactive digital tools.
In addition, the seminar addressed the concept of blended learning, its advantages and challenges in higher education, as well as the Challenge-Based Learning approach as a tool for developing practical competencies through real-world problem-solving.
Special attention was given to the role of syllabi in the educational process. They were presented not only as formal documents but as tools for structuring courses, communicating expectations between lecturers and students, and enhancing transparency in the learning process.
The seminar marked the first step in a series of events within the DAAD MERIT-Ukraine project, aimed at advancing modern teaching practices, implementing innovative educational tools, and strengthening academic cooperation between Ukrainian and German universities.
