Online forum “Ensuring the quality of higher education in wartime”
On May 24, 2022 the International Online Forum “Ensuring the quality of higher education in wartime.” took place with the participation of representatives of Igor Sikorsky KPI. The event was moderated by Natalia Stukalo, Deputy Head of the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education. In front of an audience of 30 countries, Ukrainian institutions presented that despite the martial law and human tragedies, higher education not only exists but also develops and seeks to improve.
They talked about the main challenges of the current situation in Ukraine, the need for cooperation of all branches of government, gratitude to international partners for their support, remote accreditation processes and its features during martial law. The way of OSCE cooperation with Ukraine and joint projects, simplified accession programs for temporarily displaced persons from Ukraine were presented separately.
The results of a survey conducted during the forum showed that over 80% consider ensuring the quality of higher education during martial law important.
The problems of internal quality assurance of higher education in martial law were mentioned, as well as active participation in assistance to citizens, creation of humanitarian headquarters, assistance in finding missing persons and continuing the educational process and conducting an introductory campaign. Representatives of the following institutions of higher education of Ukraine spoke: Mariupol State University; V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University; Dnipro University of Technology; Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University; National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”; Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; Ukrainian Catholic University and a representative of the Department of Military Education and Science of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Representatives of Mariupol State University and V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University presented current university projects and the possibility of their revival despite the significant destruction of the buildings of these institutions, emphasizing not only the architectural reconstruction but also the reconstruction of the institutions.
The draft National Action Plan for External Quality Assurance in Higher Education for the period 2022-2023 was presented, outlining the main measures, vectors of work and current issues that can be overcome only by consolidated efforts of all stakeholders.
