Global Perspectives: Fostering Internationalisation in Higher Education
The Universidade de Vigo recently hosted the International Staff Week 2024, a significant event dedicated to promoting and enhancing internationalisation in Higher Education. Held from the 6th to the 10th of May, 2024, this event delved into the complexities and benefits of adopting a comprehensive internationalisation strategy in today’s globalised academic landscape.
The theme for this year, “Global Perspectives: Fostering Internationalisation in Higher Education,” provided attendees with insights into integrating internationalisation across various facets of university operations. From enhancing administrative frameworks to boosting student mobility, the programme was designed to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to advance internationalisation efforts within their institutions.
The International Staff Week featured a rich programme of activities, including workshops, seminars, and discussion panels led by experts in the field of international education. Participants had the opportunity to explore best practices for integrating internationalisation into university administrative frameworks, discuss strategies to improve student and staff mobility, and engage in networking sessions to foster collaborations and partnerships. Additionally, they shared experiences and challenges related to internationalisation in their institutions, making the event a comprehensive learning experience.
This year’s event was a truly international gathering, with around 25 participants from across Europe and beyond, including countries such as Cape Verde. The diversity of attendees provided a broad range of perspectives and experiences, enriching the dialogue on internationalisation in Higher Education. Notably, the event welcomed participants from ATHENA partner institutions, including Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU), Lublin University of Technology, and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VilniusTech).
The International Staff Week at Universidade de Vigo offered a platform for academic and administrative staff to collaborate, innovate, and drive the internationalisation agenda forward in their institutions. Attendees left with new insights, strategies, and connections that will help them enhance the internationalisation efforts at their respective institutions.
