HUAWEI UKRAINE gifted Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute two new laboratories for student training

On August 7, 2024, Huawei Ukraine and the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” signed an agreement on the donation of technical equipment for two new laboratories of the university as part of a long-term cooperation project.

The Huawei Digital Power laboratory is a full-fledged solar station that will supply backup power for classrooms and generate its own electricity. It will operate at the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The second laboratory, Huawei Microvawe, will provide carrier-grade wireless signal transmission. This laboratory will be installed at the Faculty of Radio Engineering of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

In particular, to equip these laboratories, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute received the following: SUN2000-10K-LC0 intelligent energy controller, SmartGuard-63A-S0 intelligent automatic backup device, LUNA2000-10KW-C1-/-10.5KW power module, LUNA2000-7-E1 battery pack and RTN-905 and XMC-3 switching devices. These innovative devices will allow for efficient and uninterrupted research and advancement of new projects.

“We hope that training on the basis of modernized laboratories will help students of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute to master and improve their skills in working with the most modern equipment, which will allow them to study effectively and strengthen their professional qualifications. We also sincerely believe that the combination of green solutions and digital technologies will allow us to build a better and greener future for Ukraine. Therefore, I am confident that our cooperation will be fruitful and useful not only for Huawei and Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, but will also be of great importance for the recovery of the Ukrainian economy,” commented Tony Cao, CEO of Huawei Ukraine.

Also, the new Huawei equipment will help to realize one of the ambitious goals of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute – to build a “green” university where research will focus on energy projects. After all, the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources is currently one of the highest priorities for Ukraine.

“We are grateful to our educational partner for their assistance in creating educational and research infrastructure and will continue to expand it. Over the years of cooperation with Huawei Ukraine, we have achieved considerable success in developing educational processes and opening up professional opportunities for our students. Today we continue our partnership and have many important plans to implement. These include expanding educational programs, launching new courses based on Huawei equipment, and paying scholarships to talented students. Cooperation in the field of cybersecurity is strategic, where we will primarily work on research projects,” said Anatoliy Melnychenko, Rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

The participants of the meeting visited the alley of prominent scientists and the exposition of the Borys Paton State Polytechnic Museum of Ukraine, as well as the educational and research laboratories DIGITAL POWER LAB and Datacom. These laboratories were opened on the basis of the university in winter with the assistance of Huawei Ukraine and are now working effectively, providing students with the necessary equipment to improve their knowledge in the field of information technology.

In general, the partnership between Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and Huawei Ukraine has been going on for eight years. During this time, the university has received Huawei network and server equipment for research, more than 300 access points and telecommunications equipment to install high-speed Internet in academic buildings, shelters and dormitories. Also, university students have repeatedly participated in dual education programs, Huawei ICT Academy and Seeds for the Future, where they acquired new ICT skills and the opportunity to intern at a leading company. In 2021, the ICT Academy at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute was recognized as the most successful and effective among all Huawei academies in Ukraine.
