CESAER Members Discuss Principles for Performance Assessment for European University Alliances
The International Collaboration Department (ICD) staff attended the first meeting of the Task Force Benchmark of the CESAER association (Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research) that took place fully online on March 12, 2024.
The meeting agenda encompassed several key points:
- Dr. Peter Elspass, Head of University Development and Controlling at Leibniz University Hannover, and Sophie Ratcliff, Advisor for Higher Education, provided an update on the European Higher Education Sector Observatory (EHESO).
- Participants in the meeting discussed fundamentals to monitor the progress of European University Alliances.
- Organizers presented the draft program for the upcoming workshop on engaging with ranking agencies, which will take place as a joint workshop with the Board of Directors on 18 June in KTH, Stockholm.
According to Peter Elspass, the key elements of EHESO are supposed to include a data center and the integration of U-multirank benchmarking tool, among other features.
In her presentation, Olga Wessels, Head of Brussels’ Office at ECIU (European Consortium of Innovative Universities) and Chair of FOREU1 alliance, paid special attention to fundamentals to monitor the progress of European University Alliances. These include the importance of communicating about the achievements of alliances, monitoring the success of the European Universities initiative versus the success of individual alliances, using both qualitative and quantitative data, are eager to benchmark alliances.
