Professor Trofymenko honored with scholarship from Ukraine’s parliament for research on innovative energy efficiency models

The scientists of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute play a pivotal role in responding to Ukraine’s formidable challenges.

Among them is Prof. Olena Trofymenko, one of the leading scientists at Kyiv Polytechnic, who makes a substantial contribution to the development of energy efficiency and sustainable development through her innovative economic models. In 2024, she received a scholarship from the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine’s parliament) for her research on the formation of a targeted energy efficiency model to support Ukraine’s post-war recovery. Her study incorporates the principles of decarbonization, circular economy, and stakeholder needs, focusing on minimizing resource losses, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and creating a system for monitoring economic indicators to ensure energy efficiency.

Professor Trofymenko’s expertise extends beyond national borders, reflecting her extensive experience in carrying out international and national projects. She led a study for the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, supported by UNICEF and Deloitte, which focused on Ukraine’s progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of economic growth, innovation, and partnerships. The findings contributed to the first Voluntary National Review of Ukraine’s progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, presented during the high-level political forum on sustainable development in New York in 2020, under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Olena Trofymenko also participated in a collective study under the project “Foresight: Challenges to the Energy Independence of Countries and Regions of the World in the Medium-Term (until 2025) and Long-Term (until 2030) Time Horizons.”

Olena Trofymenko is a certified participant in the traineeship “International Research and Education Projects in European and Polish System of Higher Education: Practice, Experience, Innovative Learning Methods” at Poland’s WSG University in Bydgoszcz. She has also undergone traineeship at the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and holds SAP ERP (enterprise resource planning) certification. In addition, Olena Trofymenko is a lecturer under the international Digital and Entrepreneurship Academy Program, sharing her insights with the next generation of leaders.

As a scientist and mentor, Professor Trofymenko is the guarantor of the educational and professional program “Economic Analytics” and has published over 150 papers, including monographs, manuals, scientific articles indexed by Scopus and Web of Science. Her contributions have been recognized at the national and international levels, and her students have won awards at various competitions. Currently, Olena Trofymenko is working flat out to make new approaches in the areas of public policy, power engineering and management, building up Ukraine’s innovative potential, and inspiring young people to achievements in science.
