In the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, a “stumbling stone” was installed on the occasion of commemorating Heorhii Brief, the teacher of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and the victims of the Holocaust. With his Jewish wife, he died in September 1941 in Babyn Yar.
The installation of “stumbling blocks” was started within the framework of the project “One Stone, One Life – 80 Stumbling Blocks for Kyiv” and was initiated by the German Embassy in Kyiv and implemented in cooperation with the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies with the support of Kyiv City State Administration and Goethe-Institut in Ukraine.
This project is aimed at educational work through the involvement of schoolchildren and students. As far as is known, Heorhii Brief worked in the main building and lived in one of the teaching staff’s houses of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute on the territory of our university. More information about the life of Heorhii Brief can be found on the official website: http://kyivstones.org/heorhii-karlovych-brif/, as well as biographies of other victims of Holocaust, which would be commemorated as part of the project with memorials throughout Kyiv.
