Prof. Dr. Frank Ettrich (University of Erfurt) will talk about “31 years of German unity – assessment and judgment from the point of view of sociology.”
When: November 2, 2021, 19.00
Where: Great Conference Hall of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 55 Volodymyrska Str., Kyiv.
(It is currently planned to hold the event offline in compliance with all quarantine requirements. We will inform you in advance of possible changes).
More than 30 years have passed since the beginning of the new era of Germany in 1989/1990, full of various events. German unity has long been a reality and is part of the everyday life of Germany. At the same time, the rapprochement of East and West Germany, again and again, raises questions that are the subject of discussion, especially at the time of anniversaries and memorable days. Today we can see an increase in the difference in perception of the relationship between East and West, which is caused, not least, by different experiences and estimates of the process of unification and its history.
Erfurt University sociology professor Frank Ettrich for years closely observed social changes in Germany and Europe. Together with him, we want to look at 31 years of German unity and at the same time discuss the general lessons for designing democratic processes that can be drawn from this special case of historical changes.
The lecture will be held in German with simultaneous translation into Ukrainian. After that, all participants are warmly invited to the reception, during which there will be an opportunity to deepen communication.
